Humphrey, formerly known as Macaroni, was the greeter for an election night party at the Zito-Slezak homestead in Free Union, Virginia.

It was a gathering that began in quite a raucous spirit. But as the night wore on the party got increasingly quiet.

The hostess went to bed just before the Republican candidate was scheduled to declare victory. But, as we all know too well, the morning light told a different story.

We blamed Al, we blamed Bill, we blamed the media, we blamed soft money. And now we live in a world that gives new meaning to the word Limbo.
